15kt Gold Locket Lace Pin c1780
A miracle of survival, this beguiling locket lace pin was made in France in the 18th century. It is solid 15kt gold with a glazed locket. Inside the locket is a miniature diorama. It shows a willow tree with a trunk meticulously made of pristine seed pearls and branches and leaves of paper. Willows are symbolic of a lost loved one. There are forget-me-nots, symbols of affection, made of glass beads. Burnished gold beads form a basket that holds a plaque with writing on it. For the ground, there is fine, fine hair. A masterpiece in miniature and in beautiful condition. The gold that frames the miniature is worked in what I see as a sunburst effect. The original pin c clasp and pin shaft are on the back. The shaft extends beyond the pin's perimeter, marking this as an older piece. Made to secure laces at the throat, this pin is worthy of being framed and exhibited. Secure enough to be worn as often as you'd care to wear it, and it displays magnificently. A tiny 11/16" in diameter. Free USPS Priority shipping for USA addresses.
