Button Art Card c1898
A beautiful folk art button card holding 164 buttons. The pattern is geometric form, as was the favored style back in those days. These particular buttons are all metal. Some are steel, others are brass, embossed brass and cut steel faceted beads. There are picture buttons with flowers, trees and shrubs, organic with boteh and geometrics. One of my favorites is a bird on a branch, with leaves. It is metal framed in decorated brass and measures just about 15mm. Another favorite is even smaller, at about only 12mm. The center holds a tiny, very pretty glass marble in red to fuschia color and this center is surrounded by tiny stars pressed into the brass. My very favorite button is dead-center. It is made of round and marquis shaped cut steel beads and the light bounces off them beautifully. The card measures 12" X 9 1/4". Original thread holders were replaced mid-20th century, with coated wiring.
