Chatelaine Mirror Belle Epoch Era, Silver
A loving couple of cherubs ~ looks like Cupid/Eros with his arrow quiver and a young female cherub holding a heart. They are nestled close to one another, surrounded by flowers, beautifully worked scrolls and shell based free forms. The hand mirror was made to be carried on a chatelaine and has its original chain and ring. The metal tests for silver that registers to a lower grade than sterling. Most likely this is .800 or continental silver.

All in beautiful condition with no dings or pings. The mirror is beveled and except for a cloudy ring around the frame, is clear and not foggy, flaked or unsilvered. The chain looks like silver plate, which was often chosen for its strength in holding pieces securely on the chatelaine. No weakness to chain, bail or rings.
Whole piece including the chain and ring has a drop of 5 5/8" and would have impact if worn around the neck from a silver chain. Mirror has diameter of 1 7/8".
Worn either from a chatelaine, a sash or as a pendant, this is one gorgeous hand mirror. Carry it with you everywhere! A gentle polishing with silver polish will clean it up nicely, although it is simply beautiful as it is.
