Child’s Sailor Shirt ~ Marshall Field c1910-20
A child's middy from Marshall Field, Chicago, with all the fine characteristics expected from this company. Tasteful white on white embroidery with a fancy star-within-a-star embroidered in each corner of the collar's back and an American eagle perched atop a compass rose poised over three chevrons on the right sleeve. The slightly dropped shoulders and the front closure suggests the shirt was originally intended for a boy, but there is no reason a girl couldn't wear it. Snowy white, substantial cotton; vertical tucks to the front; buttons & button holes hidden by a placket. Original natural mother of pearl buttons; a hook and eye hidden beneath the fabric. Two roomy patch pockets are at the front. Belt loops in side seams. Two wide button holes beneath the sailor collar, one on either side, were for the sailor scarf insertion. The belt and the scarf are both missing, but this is easily recified. Label - Marshall Field & Co., and also a faded size 7 label. All is in great shape! This patriotic nautical middy ensures smooth sailing through summer days and nights. Chest, waist & hips each 30"; length 19"; shoulder range 13"; sleeve length from dropped shoulder 15".
