Coal Miners ~A Brass Badge and A Post Card
We found the coal miner's badge in England, close by the border to Wales. The man from whom we bought the tag told us that each miner was issued a brass tag, which he'd pick up at the beginning of his shift. When the shift had ended and all the miners were out of the tunnels, the badges were checked. A missing badge meant a missing miner.
The photo on the post card does what photos should do ~ it shows reality. The photograph is dark, as are the expressions on the miners' faces.
The tag is a 1 1/2" square and is in very nice condition, other than wanting a bit of cleaning and polishing to shine. The post card is 5 1/2" X 3 1/2". Unused and in good condition with a softening around the endges and a bit of wear to the tips of the corners. The back has turned dark with age. An interesting, unusual subject. History.
