Early Schoolgirl Pencil Sketch w/ Watercolor ~ Lamb Children c1830-60
A charming folk art watercolor on paper, dating to c1830-60. The fine, albeit primitive, pencil sketch is filled in with watercolor paint. The subject ~ a young boy, a young girl and a lamb. The girl is placing a garland of flowers around the neck of the lamb. Originally this was a page in an early friendship autograph album. The album was beyond salvation, but this painting was miraculously saved.
The painting is glazed and framed with what looks to be the original materials. The painting itself is in very nice condition, exhibiting only some minor surface foxing. The wood frame is sturdy and has developed a satiny patina. There are the anticipated age and use signs from normal use. There are small bits of corner chipping, and a small crack at one corner. Despite this, it displays quite well. The glass is just fine. Visual image 8 3/4" x 6 3/4"; framed approx. 13" x 10 1/2"
