Goddess Flora, Shell Cameo Brooch in 12K Gold Frame c1870
Product Info
An antique shell cameo of the goddess Flora, dating to c1860. This cameo has fluidly carved detail ~ an outstanding example of the fine skill the Mid-Victorians had at carving shell. Flora's flowers seem a natural extension of her hair's graceful waves. Her profile is dignified and feminine and she is smiling a little smile. An expressive face, especially for a shell cameo. Shell is not easy to work with.
The cameo was most likely made in Italy, and probably collected on a 19th century Grand Tour. Framed in 14kt gold and in impeccable condition, with only what looks like a 1/8" natural blemish to the back, shallow and not in the least threatening. The clasp is a safety replacement done long ago and is in good working order. 1 3/4"T X a shade over 1 3/8"W. Free USA shipping, handling and insurance. Handling fees waived for international shipping.
