Hair Buckle Ring with Gold c1840
A miracle of survival, this is the sentimental hair ring made of woven human hair. Fitttings are 12k yellow gold. The ring dates to c1840. The buckle style became extraordinarily popular in fashion and jewelry design shortly after Queen Victoria's rise to the throne in 1837. She visited her Scottish Guardsmen in Scotland for the first (official) time shortly thereafter, and was taken with their uniforms, which sported the buckle. She incorporated the design into jewelry for herself. Buckle jewelry soon became the most sought after in England, followed closely by America. Free USPS Priority shipping for USA addresses.
