Miniature Dome Top Trunk from Albany, NY c1850
Details:
One of the most loveable little trunks ~ there's not a thing not to love about it. It is dome-topped and it is very small. For very small documents. It measures only 9"L X 5"D X 4.5"H. It is wood covered in a mystery paper ~ may be rag paper. Dry, but not brittle. It could have been oil- treated and maybe that's what is keeping it in such good condition. I really don't know what it is, but it is nicely marked or grained, clean and complete. The edges all around are thicker leather with brass stud decoration. There is a charming brass handle that looks to be original. Inside, the box may have been painted sometime in its long life. The paint is a dull gray blue with a matte finish. The label on the lid's interior reads: WILLIAM S. KING's/ TRUNK MANUFACTORY,/ Corner of State and South Pearl Street, Albany,/ Where are constantly kept on hand a general Assortment of / TRUNKS / Of every description and size, Wholesale and Retail. / N.B. Old Trunks repaired or exchanged.
Charming and so useful!
