Original McCoy Indian Head Cookie Jar

  • Product Info

I was so excited to find this marvelous McCoy cookie jar!  It's an original McCoy, not a reproduction.  An ex-collection piece, it was displayed rather than used and its very nice condition attests to that.  Even the lid remains ~ a rarity ~ and it's in gorgeous shape. The pottery was beautifully cold painted.  The chief's headgear has embossed dimensional stones or shells painted in rich agate-like colors.  The feathers in his hair are beautifully detailed, especially at their backs.  The paint remains intact overall, with no fade or discolor, no chips or flakes.  McCoy USA is embossed on the bottom.   Approximate dimensions: 10  7/8"H X 8 1/2"W X 7 1/2"D.

Note of Interest: Pontiac Indian Chief cookie jars were commissioned by General Motors for their Pontiac Motor Car division. The jars were made by McCoy Potteries c1954-6 as premiums to be given to customers purchasing new Pontiacs.  The advertising history behind the cookie jar, as well as the jar's fabulous condition, makes it highly desirable and collectible.
