Pair of Victorian Wedding Bracelets with Buckles c1860
Whenever I see a pair of antique wedding bangles, I buy them. They are that hard to find complete and in good order. Usually they are gold filled, but occasionally you can find solid gold.
This pair pictured are gold filled in buckle style. The designs on each bangle are not exactly alike, but designed as one complimenting the other. Bright cut, they show iconic early Aesthetic Period fanciful plumes, flowers, heart shaped foliage and elaborately decorated chevron forms. One bangle has a single bird. Front & center of each bangle is a fan and these match exactly. Each fan is hinged and acts as opening and closure for the bracelet. A fan is at the front of each with a design etched in decoration.
The bracelets are gently worn ~ minor gold loss to interior of the bangles and a bit along edges, all from age and normal use. There are no markings as to maker, etc. on either bangle. The bracelets are adjustable to a degree. Each one measures an oval of approximately 7 1/2" end to end. Width is a shade over 1/2". Overall condition: very, very good.
