Peterboro Basket Co. Vintage Pie Basket
Details
Baskets are not useful just at harvest time. They're good all year 'round, especially when they're carrying such wonderful treats as home made pies. This pie basket was made in New Hampshire by the Peterboro Basket Company. They've been making baskets since 1854, so they know what they're doing. Our basket is in great condition. It is vintage and dates to the mid-20thC. All parts are original and the entire basket is in the best of conditions, with a nice mild attic surface to show the attractive depth age brings to things, and the proper patina to prove the basket has been used wisely. The original metal hook and eye clasp is in good working order. The proper signature for Peterboro Basket Company is on the inside of the lid. The lid swings open and closes properly, and the handles both move up and down smoothly.
This is an exciting find, and especially with the holidays coming fast. Picture the basket filled with Christmas ornaments, sugar plums & candy canes or your antique Santas, set on a dessert buffet table surrounded by luscious pies. Perfect! 13" X 11" X 5"
A note about the Peterboro Basket Company: in business since 1854, they have achieved an admirable reputation in the basket business. Featured in articles and lists of "The Best Of..." by such as Country Living, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple Magazine, This Old House: American Classics, The Wall Street Journal Weekend Edition, and Yankee Magazine. The baskets were included in ABC World News Tonight with David Muir's focus on the best of American made products, and Peterboro baskets were used in the 2019 period film Little Women. In our last picture, you'll see a still from the film with cast members carrying Peterboro baskets.
